LIS Extractors - Stop V3-update, empty delta, make new initialization - OK?

Hi Experts

Regarding a new delta initialization on a LIS extractor.

I know that best practise is to lock user out of the system, while a new delta initialization on a LIS extrator is made. But can a new delta initialization not also be done just be stopping the V3-update (there is addition in the updaterule from 2LIS_XX to 1st Level ODS)? Say you want to reload specific documents:

1. Stop V3-update

2. Make delta load twice to empty delta queue from 2LIS_XX to 1st Level ODS and from 1st Level ODS to InfoCube.

3. Make selective deletion in 1st level ODS and InfoCube (delete the specific documents)

4. Fill setup table with specific documents

5. Make new delta initialization from 2LIS_XX

5.1 Make a new delta initialization from 1st Level ODS to InfoCube

6. Make full repair load to load the specific documents

7. Reschedule V3-update

8. Make delta load from 1st level ODS to InfoCube

9. Make delta load from 2LIS_XX to 1st Level ODS

10. Make delta load from 1st Level ODS to InfoCube

A)

If it is not okay just to stop the V3-update, please explain why.

B)

I'm as well a little unsure whether step 5 and 5.1 is needed or not - please note that there is addition in the updaterule from 2LIS_XX to ODS and of course from ODS to InfoCube.

Thanks!

Kind regards,

Torben

HI,

a) In my view stoping V3 will not solve your problem specially when you are having key figures additive. After doing full repair for selective documents we are still having a possibility for documents lying under update queue which has already been updated to your staging DSO with the help of repair full. If you will pull the delta those common documents will be updated to DSO again, hence double entry because of additive key figure.

b) Now, regarding steps 5 and 5.1 same condition holds true as described above.

Only 2 options which I can see here are:

1) Make sure no one make the changes in the documents for which you are doing repair full.

2) Delete contents of staging DSO and do the initialization again.

General schenario that developers follow to load the data into BW system is not to keep key figure for staging DSO as additive then introduce new EDW layer DSO and do the calculation that you want, further load it to datamart Infoproider.

Hope it helps.

Hi Torben

I will tell you the steps you need to re-initialise a ODS.

1. Run the V3 update first. ( this will empty the update queue)

2. Run the delta in the BW side. ( this will empty the delta queue)

3. Now delete the ODS content.

4. Stop the V3 update and block all the users in R3.

5. Run the setup table and after the completion of the job, release the users.

6. Do the init in BW side.

7. Schedule the V3 updates.

8. Now ur ready for delta.

Let me know if you have any query on this.

Hi Sriram

Thanks for your reply.

Blocking the user is not an option in my case.... Which is why I have to make a work-around.

Please have a look at my two questions a) and b)
