Back flushing is used in Repetitive Manufacturing to record work process in the system. Backflushing is a very lean process, corresponding to the requirements of repetitive, mass or flow manufacturing. For example, you do not have to post any of the actual production data until posting the goods receipt of the finished product in a final backflush. In make-to-stock repetitive manufacturing, you can also backflush at the reporting points of predefined operations. This enables you, for example, to determine the stock of unfinished products in production.

When you are back flushing, you are also capturing the material issues for production and activities consumed and these values are being passed on to CO PC to caluclate WIP, variances and final settlement. Without these values system will not in a position to calculate these values.

Hi,

Find SAP text on this with clear info.

Use

Each material component is assigned to an operation in the production order. If a material component is backflushed, the system posts the withdrawal only upon confirmation of the operation. The withdrawal is then posted automatically.

Determines whether the backflush indicator is set in the production order. Here, a 3-level hierarchical logic is applied:

1. In the routing, the backflush indicator is set in the component assignment.

2. In the material master record, the backflush indicator has the characteristic "Always backflush".

3. In the material master record, the backflush indicator has the characteristic "Work center decides", the indicator being set in the work center.

In simple terms you are creating an order and the order is taken up for production issue does not takes place at the time manufacturing in SAP but takes place at the time of confirming the order that is when the finished goods is taken in to stock . So the finished goods receipt and all material issues related to production will be accounted for including activities related to production simultaneously. Pl let me know if you require more clarification.
