EP KM file "Edit Locally" not functioning

Former Member

Hi,

We are working on NW04s Portal.

While working in Knowledge management, we are not able to modify any KM file using the "Edit Locally option"

However the option "Edit Online" is working fine.

<b>How to enable the <u><i>Edit Locally</i></u> option ?</b>

Regards

Sunil Kulkarni

Sunil - make sure that the <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/7d/236cfa17034a37a439dc392ec59eb0/frameset.htm">URL Generator Service</a> is configured so that it generates URLs that are reachable from your client machine.

Hi Boris, I have checked & found that, all the settings for "URL Generator Service" are as per SAP recommendations..

Edit locally works either using active X or java applet. There is a setting in KM configuration settign which one it is. I think that ActiveX is default, so if your local permissions don't allow you to use ActiveX, then it won't work.

Hi Frederik,

Thanks for your reply.

The thread is really very useful.

Although the problem is not yet fixed, i am able to go one step ahead..

Now the portal is showing error as

<b>"The download of the document failed"</b>

Do I need carry out any other setting.

(PS : I have already <b>deselected</b> ActiveX Version Check:,keeping other settings as it is)

So it is set to use activeX (so do not worry about your java runtime version) - in which case then I have seen it where the PC's are locked down so that it will not allow activeX programs to be installed / run on the PC. Have you tried running it as a local PC administrator?

Do you have a Java Runtime on our PC (JRE)? If so then change the setting to Java, set the runtime version to whatever JRE version you have. You may have to restart the portal for changes to take effect. That may make it work.

If not then have you op0ened a call with SAP?
