Hello all

I m facing this irritating problem here..few days back my MINIWAS 6.2 was perfectly running. when i logged in it showed me the license is expired then i extended it and it worked well.. now after 1 week now when i try to start the MIINWAS database..it gives me windows error saying 'SAP DB kernel.exe this program has performed illegal operation' and it doesnt start at all .I can't use SAP DB MANAGER Utility to back my database as first it need to connect to existing database, and when it try to do that , same error comes up. i dun understand wat is the problem here .If anyone here faced similar problem or knows abt this kind of errors please reply me..i m really waiting to get back to work on MINIWAS .Any pointers on the issue will be highly appreciated ..

Thanks in advance

Nilesh

NOTE : when i start the DATABSE ..the XSERVER service is started and the green LED for harddrive shows activity also which means it starts loading the database but then that activity stops and windows error is shown

Hi Nilesh,

maybe some more information can be retrieved regarding the error in the logs of the Windows Event Viewer?

Additionally, there should be more information about the error in the knldiag and knldiag.err file of your MaxDB instance. Please have a look at those (they're found in the Rundirectory of your instance, issue 'xinstinfo <DB-SID>' to find out your Rundirectory's path) and show us relevant info from them.

Please also state which exact MaxDB version you are using (incl. Buildnr.).

Hi Nilesh,

well, you should be able to retrieve the version from the knldiag file aswell.

Regarding your issue; it seems you're using a compressed filesystem? I'm afraid we don't support our volumes/devspaces on compressed filesystems. Please remove the compression on the filesystem that contains your data and log volumes/devspaces.

Well,

I'd really recommend to remove the disk compression. To remove that, you'd have to find the directory from which you enabled it and then got to its advanced properties.

Hello Ronald

i removed the decompression but no use...then later i came to know that the problem was the DATA VOLUME which we specify interms of LOGICAL SIZE got full...in simple words after few days the data in MINISAP goes on increasing and thats why we need to increase the limits of the LOGICAL SIZE in parameters in SAP DB Manager , but now when i tried to change the parameters of the DATA VOLUME i got some communication error with database so cudnt increase the limts..so finally i had to reinstall it...if u can give me some answers wat was the problem while changing the parameters of the DATA VOLUMES ..it will be very beneficial for me next time ..

Thanks for ur replies

Hi Nilesh,

to be able to say anything about your issues regarding the Data Volumes, I'd need to see the errors that occurred from files dbm.prt, dbm.utl and knldiag/knldiag.err.
