Hi all,
We have recently installed IDES 6.0 on Windows 2003 server with Oracle 10G as the dbase.
we have taken a new external HDD(500 Gb) for taking backups.
We have not yet started taking any backup
We are planning for an offline backup today, for which i wanted to know how we can execute this activity, for which i request the forum members to send me any document apart from the help.sap.com links, as it is a little tough.
If the document can contain any possible screenshots with explanations then it will do a great help for me.
Also not sure what should be used either BRTOOLS or SAPDBA, plz suggest.
waiting to hear asap.
Thanks a million in advance,
Regards
Hunky...
Hi Dude,
You install the HDD on server after formating it. Then go to INIT<SID>.SAP file and edit with note pad , change backup device to disk, remaining parameters you can chek with other server's file.
From web AS 640 on wards only BRTOOLS work, you better use them rather than DB13. Create a foldername(backup) in the new drive and mention same in the brtools.
It's simple but need to give more trials.
Regards,
Hari.

Hello Hari,
I appreciate for the reply but i fear doing those changes..when the system is up and running..
Can you please explain me in detail about the whole process..
And FYI its an external USB HDD which is connected to the server directly...
Is it possible for you to paste any sample configuration file here for init<SID>.sap file
or if possible can u send it as an attachment to hari.haran37@gmail.com
Waiting to hear more from u asap.
Will award point for sure...
Thanks a million in advance..
Regards
Hunky
Hi eric,
It is simple for sure, but the client is reluctent to use this procedure...
Its only because they want to C how this works for IDES and want to implement the same with the Prodcution and Dev systems in the near future, which will be on HP-UNIX and Oracle DB.
But i liked the procedure... and for sure will help me in time for any IDES system.
Thanks a million , awarded points for the same..
Regards
Hunky
Hunky,
I would have but i don't have access to Oracle DB right now, so only few changes you need to make in INIT<SID>.sap file.
1. backup device type: disk
2. you will find backup target ... mention new Disk location there
3. back up tape/disk size.
Then go to BRtools and fire offline/online backup.
I will recomend that you better use tape drive atleast for<b> production</b> server.
Regards,
Hari.
