May be ur referring to Fiscal Variant & Fiscal Period .

0FISCVARNT - Fiscal Variant is a compounding attribute to Fiscal Period & Fiscal year .

Fiscal Variant indicates the number of special periods in a Fiscal Year.

Ex : K4 - Fiscal year ( variant ) has 4 special periods.

0FISCPER3 - Fiscal Period ( 2007001 )

Fiscal Period is jst like Calender Year Month but a Fin Year may have 16 Posting ( 001 to 016 ) Periods unlike Calender Year which can only have 12 months.

Many countries have their own Finacial Calanders.

some countries have Financial Calander same as Normal calander.

Eg: In india Financial Calander starts from April and ends in March.

Normal calander is same everywhere. January to December

By using FISCVARNT we determine the finacial year cycle to post the amount to correct periods. FISCPER is determined from FISCVARNT value.

Eg: In India, A document posted in October 2007 falls under period 06.2008.

Hope this helps

Hi katyayini,

Some Forum Experts Wrote this

Fiscal year variant is a concept in controlling that helps you define the periodicity of posting periods as per the accounting standards of your organisation.

Not all organisations follow January to December cycle (also known as calender year) for their accounting. Some follow different cycles (For eg, May to Apr). This is called the Fiscal year. Some might not even follow regualr month dates (from 1st to 30th/31st, i.e. calender month). They follow something called as posting periods.

These definations of the accounting cycle is defined under a Fiscal year variant. Fiscal Year variant settings are defined during the initial phase of implementation and forms the basis of all accounting related transactions. It generally stays constant for an organisation.

When you say Fiscal year variant "10". It could be defined by the FICO implementation team. Table T009 has the details about the Fiscal year variant defination. Table T009B has more details about the relation between the fiscal year (posting periods) and the calender year that you organisation follows. You may want to have a look at them.

How to choose an appropriate fiscal year variant for your organisation depends upon the way you company deals with accounting-legal matters and should be inline with the GAAP of the country. You can even define your own fiscal year variants. Your FICO team or accounts department can help you with it.

Please see the SAP Help link for more details.

Calyear starts from JAN and ends with DEC.

But the starting (then automatically ending) of fiscal year is client specific. Client may consider April is the start month of year(financial) .So this can be achieved by defining the fiscal year. One client can have different fiscal year definations with different Fiscal varients. So Fiscal variants differ the starting and ending of fiscal year.

You can have a look at the Fiscal year Variant and the periods in transaction OB29.

Amd some Example can be :

K1 Calendar year, 1 spec. period

K2 Calendar year, 2 spec. periods

K3 Calendar year, 3 spec. periods

K4 Calendar year, 4 spec. periods

Hope this helps.

Thanks

CK
