Hi every one,
We are implementing SAP HR module, we are having ECC 5.0 system. Is enterprise portal mandatory to implement ESS?
Thanks
Well technically No... but practically yes.
SAP Portal will save from trouble of doign hardcode binding with SAP systems and all user Management issues.
Also there will be limitation to use standard WebDynpro applications..
So recommendation is to use SAP Portal.
Hope this helps.

Hi Chris,
It is compulsory to have portals for implementing ESS. Because, how can u give access of ur SAP system to employees scatterd around the world? This is only possible only when we link our SAP HR system with portals, there by implementing ESS in the portals.
Portals work on Net weaver architecture which works on web dynpros that are different from usual dynpros (GUI).
Sudheer
Yes.
Soem ESS functionality may be available in the SAP GUI, but a number of applications are only available throught the ESS web dynpro applications that usually load on the portal.
Regards,
Tom
