Hello.
We are using legato networker 7.2 with brbackup for performing online/offline backups of oracle databases. But the backup of one instance regulary fails. This is what brbackup says:
...
BR280I Time stamp 2007-10-05 10.43.25
BR279E Return code from '/usr/sap/GRP/SYS/exe/run/backint -u GRP -f backup -i /o
racle/local/backup/.bdwhniyt.lst -t file -p /oracle/sys/v817/dbs/initGRP.utl.leg
ato.onl -c': 1
BR232E 64 of 126 files saved by backup utility
BR280I Time stamp 2007-10-05 10.43.25
BR231E Backup utility call failed
The number of files saved varies.
So how can I ensure that the backup doesn't fail.
Wolfgang
Hi Wolfgang Leideck,
Follwoing can be the reasons:
1) The file to be backed up cannot be read. In most cases, this is due to
hardware problems on the disk on which the file is stored.
2)The file to be backed up cannot be written to the volume. In most cases, this is due to hardware problems with the volume or the backup device.
3)The backup device is not responding, for example if no volume (tape) was inserted in the backup device.
4)The input or output file cannot be opened. The operating system user is
experiencing authorization problems.
5)The physical end of the tape was reached. However, since a parallel backup is performed or the option -c force was used, cpio cannot request a cpio continuation volume. The tape size (parameter tape_size) must be reduced.

supply a more complete brbackup log.
about half the files are backed up, perhaps a tape drive is failing?
