Hello!
I would like to install the second SAP System (SAP Solution Manager) with Oracle 10 on the same operation system Solaris Unix.
According to the Installation Guide I have not seen this case (two SAP instance on the same OS)
Can some one give me the answers for the following questions?
Which preparations should be done before the installation?
- Is it recommended to install the Oracle-software/Oracle instance twice?
- Stop the current SAP System/DB? (TNS_LISTENER of old Oracle instance)
- Create directories for the new SAP instance?
- Which new environment variables (ORACLE_HOME, ORA_SID, SAPDATA_HOME, etc.) should be set and under which user (orasid, sidadm)?
Thank you very much in advance for your answers!
regards
Thom
Hi Tom,
- Is it recommended to install the Oracle-software/Oracle instance twice?
YES in fact you have to install database twice each for sap system
- Stop the current SAP System/DB? (TNS_LISTENER of old Oracle instance)
No need to stop as while installtion you give different port no for New listner , if you are planning to use old listner then you may have to stop existing DB.
- Create directories for the new SAP instance?
Yes it will be different for both the systems.
- Which new environment variables (ORACLE_HOME, ORA_SID, SAPDATA_HOME, etc.) should be set and under which user (orasid, sidadm)?
No need I think after installation these are set for these users.
Hope this is useful
Regards
Umesh

usually yo do not have to stop the database...just restart the listener after having made the appropriate changes to the isterner.ora...that's all!

Thom,
such setup is a common practice followed in SAP implementations, mostly for playpen / DEV / Test instances. Also, using virtual hosts and virtual IP addresses is a good practise in such setups. It allows you to move your instances without affecting the physical host names.

-. I recommend you to do so.
- Stop the current SAP System/DB? (TNS_LISTENER of old Oracle instance)
DB can remain up, but you might need to tweak the listener in some cases.
- Create directories for the new SAP instance?
yes, each instance whould have its own diretory (and system number)
- Which new environment variables (ORACLE_HOME, ORA_SID, SAPDATA_HOME, etc.) should be set and under which user (orasid, sidadm)?
you will create new orasid and sidadm and use similar values that of previous installation, except that you will use the new SID
