Using xMII with iPlanet LDAP

We are using 11.5.3. I had just gotten the connection to the Active Directory LDAP and it's configuration figured out and working when the client decided to validate users against an exiting iPlanet Directory Server v5.1 (Sun One Directory Server) LDAP. Apparently the syntax for connecting to and extracting data from this LDAP is significantly different as I have not been able to establish a connection to it yet. Does anyone have any experience with this LDAP that would be willing to share the user name connection syntax and the proper query syntax?

I am not familiar with the product, but I did find the Admin Guide for iPlanet.

Thanks, I have all the iPlanet documentation, no real help for this type of thing though. It focuses on using the iPlanet console and command line apps rather than external connections but I'm still looking.
