BASIS/BW Administration

Dear All,

I am working on ECC 5.0 (BASIS) administration in a medium sized environment for under a year. I might have to accept to work on BI/BW support assignment project with out any training, and I have been handed a BW 360 training material. I did go through fourms to get general knowledge about what I might be doing, did gone through elearning on SAP website and some PDFs, and what I understood is main tasks will be performance management and conceptual difference between clients in BI/BW to other applications and some transport management.

It might be a million dollar question if I ask fine line between BW Administrator and BW consultant responsibility with respect to performance management tasks. It will be helpful, if somebody can suggest and write few lines in this respect and also which are the areas I should be referring to in BW 360 document.

Hi Kris,

I am not quite clear with your question. Let me put some lones, There is a lot of diff. between B/W consultant and BW Admin. Admin is any basis person can do, consultant part you need to have idea in org structure and analysis.

I am not sure which document's needed for your scenario?, i simply suggest you not to fight by leaving the ground. Let your manage ment get some BW Guru and you start learn from him.

Hari.

I am pleased to see your reply.

My question is what is the role of Basis/Netweaver administrator in supporting BW/BI landscape. What will be expected skills on top of supporting application server maintaince tasks, which are different from ECC system ?

Please do ask me if you have further questions in this relation...and if I am not clear yet ?

There is not much differance, if you install on a seperate box you will be caring as like any other web AS.

--What are the primary monitoring tools we should be using other than standard tools for supporting Basis ? One tool I heard is BI Administror work bench ?

-- Important database parameters which need to be tuned for BW specific performance, eg -- bigger SGA ,

-- It is responsibilty of Basis administrator to configure RFC connections to source system isn't it ?

any more such areas.. Any more information in these areas will be helpful Hari.
