Can we re-name SAP Instance?

Hi,

Our system has a Longer Instance name and we are getting some dumps due to this issue.

Is there any way we can re-name the instance? or do we need copy/Install from Scratch?

Hi,

If, by instance name you mean the name displayed in SM51 : <hostname>_<SID>_ <SYSNR>

Yes it is possible, but

It is NOT supported

it is tricky.

So, It is usually faster and safer to reinstall...

go read the homogeneous system, copy guide from http://service.sap.com/systemcopy

but I agree with the last poster, a re-install is the safest way.

what do you understand under instance name?

I only know one instance name (DVEBMGSxx, Dxx) but the change of those is not supported.

This instance name is used in the directory structure, profile names.

is it this one you are talking about?

ABAP / JAVA or mixed system?
