Hi

Refer below

Intermediate Document (IDoc)

What is IDoc? IDoc (intermediate document) is a standard mySAP ERP document that contains business data, represented in a positional file format. It includes various standard document message types, for example, Material Master, Delivery Document, and Invoice.

How does it work? These message types are generated based on triggers in mySAP ERP using standard functionality. For example, when an order is processed by mySAP ERP, it can automatically generate an IDoc for notifying other applications. These documents have a rigid structure and are text encoded.

BizTalk Server 2006 can receive IDocs. After BizTalk Server receives an IDoc, it can transform the message into an XML document, map fields and records, process data, and route the information to other systems.

Using IDocs for ALE and EDI

IDocs can be used in both Application Link Enabling (ALE) and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) to deliver data to the receiving system. ALE is an integration technology that enables messages to be distributed between mySAP ERP systems and between mySAP ERP and non-mySAP ERP systems. It ensures that data is exchanged between applications and remains consistent in all applications. In an ALE integration system, application systems remain loosely coupled and message distribution is based on IDocs that are created and dispatched in distributed systems using message types and BAPIs.

If data is sent to an external partner, this is typically considered EDI, while ALE is a mechanism to reliably replicate data between trusting systems to store a redundant copy of the IDoc data. In a purchase order example that is sent as an IDoc to a supplier, the supplier will store the purchase order as a sales order. However, if the purchase order is sent via ALE to another mySAP ERP system, the receiving system will store the purchase order as a purchase order.

Comparing IDoc and RFC

There are two significant differences between simple RFC calls and IDoc data exchange:

Every action performed on IDocs is protocolled by SAP.

IDocs can be reprocessed if an error occurs in one of the message steps. SAP follows a concept of "change pointers" to have a protocolled way of sending out IDocs.
