Hi all,

We are going for a fresh installation of BW 3.5 on linux. We have around 39 kernel patches both Independent and dependent . and around 20 oracle patches...is there any order we have to follow to install these things. Pls suggest.

Best Regards

Praveen

Hi Praveen,

Normally you should patch the database first.

Than for the kernel you just extrac all in the same place, any order is ok.

To avoid incosystency version, I would suggest you download the collection one not the individual patch.

So you only have 1 collection patch for EXE and 1 collection patch for DB and 1 collection patch for BRTOOLS.

And you can extract all the collection by any order.

Hope this help,

Hi all,

thx for the inputs....

Fendi , i didnt understand wat "collection one" is...do u mean SAPEXE_175-20000175.SAR -->Kernel part I Q1 2007.

I did understand tht we shud install Oracle patches first and then kernel, what i meant was the sequence tht shud be followed to install the 20 odd oracle patches.

Any sequense is OK or shud i follow a procedure?

Pls suggest.

Hi Praveen,

Yes that what I mean part I and Part II.

You should apply Oracle patch first than you can go upgrade the kernel.

But there is no any rule where should go first.

Some time I never update my oracle patch, I just upgrade the kernel only.

I only update the oracle kernel if required due to some major problem reported by EWA.

And as other say, sometime you also need to consider the OS patch also.

But again its not mandatory. Its depen on your system patch level.

Hi Fendi,

thx for the reply...

So if i use the latest EXE i.e SAPEXE_175.EXE part I & II,i need not install or download the other files like...R3ta_320000175.SAR,R3trans_192.SAR,R3check_12-20000175.SAR,SAPstart,SAPstop,......like wise we have 39 files....is tht so...

Pls suggest..

Hi Praveen,

Yes you dont need other patch any more if you use the Part I and Part II patch bundle. You you only need to download 3 file only for kernel upgrade:

Kernel EXE Part I

DB EXE Part II

DBORA (depen on your Oracle version)

SAPEXE_175 mean the disp+work version for this bundle is version 175.

Praveen, when you download the files that Fendi mentionned, you will get to level 175. if you want the latest kernel, you also download every file which datestamp is more recent than the 3 packages.

so, you have a choice. version 175 or the latest and greatest.

obviously, this involves more work.

Hi Fendi,

We are going for Oracle 10.2.0.2 & kernel 6.40.... ,we found DBATOOLS in dependent patches... is it the one for DBA tools? but the desc says DBATOOLS for 9.2.x, in one of the forum replies given by you to a question posted by some one else,u meantioned like we dont have BRTOOLS for kernel 6.4,oracle 10.2.0.2 , r both DBAORA & DBATOOLS for 9.2.x are one and the same ?

Thanks & Regards

Praveen

go get brtools version 7.00.

version 7.00 support Oracle 10g.

and yes, you can use kernel 6.40 with brtools 7.00.

hi,

Yes, install 10.2.0.2 ( currently it is the only supported patch set ) and all the patches from note 871096.

If no other patch is installed you can user MOPatch, if you have already any patch, don't use it

Hi Praveen,

Normally we apply OS patches and then database patches.

I would suggest you to go for OS patches first.

Praveen,

I would suggest that you build the OS first and then start building database as there are several database patches which are dependent on the OS level.
