Hi Experts, we are planning to install X! 3.0/PI 7.0 on HP UX.
1. Is Unicode installation mandatory ?
2. ECC 6.0 - should this also be Unicode ?
3. SRM 6.0 - should this also be Unicode ?
Thanks,
Munavar
It is mandatory for PI, but not for ECC. Here is a general guide for the other systems: https://websmp201.sap-ag.de/unicode.
Cheers,
John

You bet it can. It can communicate with any SAP or non-SAP system regardless of the unicode status of the other system. I would still be cautious if you are an international company and make sure there are no language considerations in the interfaces that are not overlooked.
We currently have it communicating with 4.6c via the RFC interface which is obviously not unicode. We are planning our upgrade to ECC 6.0 and we are not going with the unicode option on that system. Because of how PI communicates via the RFC interface (or ABAP proxy in Netweaver), it will not be a problem.
Cheers,
John
Thanks again John.
Regarding Unicode installations and upgrades...
SAP says... "New releases of SAP NetWeaver and SAP applications based on SAP NetWeaver, which are released in 2007 or later, will no longer support new installations of Non-Unicode systems. Non-Unicode upgrades and system copies of Single Codepage systems will still be possible. An additional option is to combine the Unicode conversion with a release upgrade, thus keeping system downtime at a minimum".
If you don't mind, can you please explain the reason to chose Non-Unicode ECC 6.0 upgrade ?
