Volume size or disk capacity reached

Hi Guruz,

I am having 4.6C on Oracle 8i.I schedule offline redo log back up daily as and when required.Everything is working fine.Though there is enough free space in the drive where the backup should be taken following warning is being encountered:

oracle_profile E:\ORACLE\SID\817\DATABASE\initSID.ora

sapdata_home J:\oracle\SID

sap_profile E:\ORACLE\SID\817\DATABASE\initSID.sap

backup_dev_type disk

archive_copy_dir J:\oracle\SID\sapbackup\ARCH

compress yes

compress_cmd C:\Winnt\SapCluster\mkszip -c $ > $

system_info SAPServiceSID ALSTPRC Windows NT 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 4 Intel

sap_info 46C SAPR3 SID V1971912821 R3_ORA 0020123090

make_info NTintel OCI_817_SHARE Jan 14 2003

command_line brarchive -u / -c force -p initSID.sap -sd

BR019W Volume size or disk capacity reached - not all offline redo log files will be saved

Backup is succesful with errors.I want to know why this is happening???I s there any formulla to calculate how many logs it can process???

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Rahman

Perhaps compression rates are outdated.

run:

brbackup -k only.

Hi All,

Thanx a lot for your response.

Backup is running successfully with warnings. But my question is that when there is enough space then why should it encounter such warnings?

Next time I will come up with exact free space in the drive before running the backup.

Rahman

you are using compression.

brbacvkup needs to know how much data it can comrpess. it then can deduce a compression rate.

this compression rates gets bad after a while, so, it is a good idea to run brbackup command I provided earlier to recalculate compressions rate.

... or, completely disable software compression.

Hi Mofizur,

It is surely related to some calculation BRARCHIVE is doing. And some thing to do with the J: drive space. Please watch care fully the space available in the drive before you issue BRARCHIVE. In this case what I can see you are backing up 45 archive log file of 20MB hence it is looking for 900MB of space but again you are going for some compression. So very difficult calculate the space required. Try taking lesser files and watch.

The another advice is, Please avoid the J drive for your Archive log backup. As It seems your Oracle home drive as well, in a long run you may face some space issue.

brarchive considers that J:\oracle\SID\sapbackup\ARCH does not have enough disk space to accommodate the backup of redologs.

how much disk space is left on J: drive?

as suggested earlier, provide full BRARCHIVE log.

We are taking the backup on Disk.We have found at that point of time enough free space was available in that Drive. Is there any parameter?

so, J: drive has at least 900MB of free disk space? how much disk space is really left^ please tell us.

have you considered updating BRTOOLS. your version is a bit old.

and this is just a mere warning, does your brarchive run finish successfully with warnings, or with errors?

Mofizur:

The warning is not for your backup directory its for the redolog or the archive log directory, which is J:\oracle\ALP\sapbackup\ARCH in your case.

From the log its evident that its backing up a total of 899.993 MB of files. And I suppose its looks for double the size in you J:\oracle\ALP\sapbackup\ARCH directory. Check this filesystem for space requirements.

By the way from your logs...I feel that the archive backup is running succesfully with this warning alone.

Per your log, only two file were archived (2 of 45 offline redo log files processed - 40.001 MB of 899.993 MB done). The archive directory can't be full at the time of this copy / delete procedure. Make sure you have some free space (at least double the size of two log files).

Thanks.

Could you put the whol BRARCHIVE log, so that its easy to understadn the situation.
