Dear All,
we are in the process of coverting exsisting logical system name into new one thru BDLS.Please throw some suggestions on what are asll the areas should we take care, areas get modified like programs, rfc etc. Please reply asap
Thanks in advance
Umesh k
Keep in mind that changing a logical system name in a production system is not supported.
Apart from that, all connected system must convert too. If you have e. g. an R/3 and an BI system and you change the logical system name of your R/3, the same BDLS run must be done in the BI too to keep the logical system names in sync.

Dear Markus,
But as a part of CUA we must change the Log sys in PRD too. Also system is not connected to other systems (BW, APO) etc.We have 3 sys landscape. One for FI/Logistics and HR.Please tell wat will be the impact after conversion.Like partner profiles, idocs etc coz there is a idoc transfer between both PRDs.

after a system refresh, if your logical system is using a generic name such as BW-SYS instead of BWP-001, you can change the RFC connection hostname in SM59 and stop there.
if you must change the logical system name because it it SID specific, then you must run BDLS. It can run in 2 hours... or 3 days. this depends on hardware specs and size of DB.
to help you make it run faster and in parallel, read the interesting blog about BDLS at /people/hari.peruri/blog/2006/11/01/execute-conversion-of-logical-system-names-bdls-in-short-time-and-in-parallel--intermediate
Dear Eric,
Yes, its only because of SID Specific we are forced to do the changes.I read the notes relating to BDLS.I have few more doubts.as per my understanding in our orgnisation logical system name is used ind WE20,IDOC trnsfers between two PRD server (4.6c).Is ther any other particular area in which the logical system name will come into picture other than the above mentioned
