Hi,

Can you tell me what is the difference between application server and web application server.

Hi,

I know you are looking an answer in specific to SAP terminology.

In SAP World Dialog Instances(DI) are referred as Application Server.

There can be any no of App. server(DI) but only a single Central instance(CI).

WAS is the new technology brought in with Introduction of Netweaver.

WAS can be a CI or Application Server.

Not exactly....

It's just like this:

Earlier times: <b>Web Application Server (WAS)</b>

Now: <b>Application Server (AS)</b>

PS: The fact that there is only one CI and any number of DIs is correct.
