Do you run Norton Systemworks on your laptop? If yes, the only way is to

a) uninstall Norton Systemworks

b) Install SAP NW

c) re-install Norton Systemworks

You can check the following thread:

Anatoliy,

I had been trying to install the NW2004s SP9 for last 5 hours on a Windows Vista machine but was stuck at "Error 5 (Access is denied. ) in execution of a 'RegOpenKeyEx' function". When I was about to give up, I came across your reply and SAPinst ran without a hitch. Thanks a lot for providing the correct answer. I want to award you points but can't as the thread was not started by me.

Thanks again.

Vishwas.

Hi Vishwas,

I solved the access denied errors. I also have Windows Vista(home premium) ,but having trouble installing the server(I am getting error during DB instance creation). Can you please let me know the following:

1) Did you download 'SAP Evaluation NW 7.0 (2004s) SP9' updated on 20-jun-2007 from NW download section?

2)I got some warnings during installation like 'OS not supported' and 'Well know user groups ... not found in the computer' . Did you also get these warnings?

If you have any special tips for the installation please let me know.

Thanks

Karthik

Hi all,

I too had access denied error while the SAP installer tries to modify the registry. The installer will stop after this error.

Anatoliy Misyura's mail was extremely helpful to solve this issue. As mentioned by Anatoliy, download the reset.cmd file and this resets the ACL and enable the installer to modify the registry.

Mentioning the link again:

Natasha,

You can try the following:

1. Looks like your Windows user id contains spaces. Try to use one without spaces. Of course, it should have full admin privileges.

2. If it does not work, please refer to the following link:

http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/09/04/739820.aspx. I strongly suggest to create registry backup before using this tool.

Hi,

Are you using any unerase utility on you laptop?

Error 5 (Access is denied. ) in execution of a 'RegOpenKeyEx' function, line (67), with parameter (SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EraserUtilRebootDrv).

During installation sapinst needs full permissions on windows registry.

Please provide full permission to Registry key "SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EraserUtilRebootDrv"

Looks like a permission issue, are u running the installation with the user with administrator privilege in the system?

Natasha,

Try logging with <SID>ADM user and continue the installation..

Not sure what is <SID>ADM user ?

As its my personal laptop I have only one user and it has admin rights.
