Hi,
Question:1
-
I am planning to upgrade kernel for SAP 4.6D. When checked in SAP service market place, there are two options:
SAP KERNEL 4.6D 64-BIT
SAP KERNEL 4.6D_EXT 64-BIT
How to confirm my system is 4.6D or 4.6D_EXT ? My disp+work -v shows following output:
~
kernel release 46D
kernel make variant 46D
DBMS client library OCI_816_64
DBSL shared library version 46D.00
compiled on SunOS 5.7 Generic_106541-05 sun4u
compiled for 64 BIT
compile time Jun 1 2004 21:08:58
update level 0
patch number 1848
source id 0.1848
~
Kernel Release it shows 46D, does it mean I have to go for 46D and not the 46d_EXT ?
Question:2
-
I have one HP-UX system for which need to upgrade the kernel and the release is 6.40. When I checked the uname command at os level the out put is :
uname -rsv
HP-UX myhost B.11.11 U 9000/800
~
this HP-UX version is HP-UX on IA64 64bit or HP-UX on PA-RISC 64bit ? How to know it is IA64 or PA-RSIC ?
Thanks
best regards
Basis
Hi,
one addition.
Currently you are using the kernel 4.6D. This kernel uses oracle client 8i.
If you change the kernel to 4.6D_EXT then you will need also to install the oracle client 9i, as this kernel needs it

hi Markus,
My OS is showing "5.9 sparcSystem = SunOS". So can I go for 46D_EXT ?

Hello Basis,
If your OS is 5.9 , you can definetely go for the 46D_EXT
As Fidel said, you will have to install Oracle client 9. It doesn't matter that you have Oracle 9, Oracle client is not dependent on the Oracle database version but rather on the SAP kernel version
Please see notes
539922 - Installing the ORACLE client software 9.2.X for UNIX
Note 1017418 - Installing Oracle 9208 Client software on UNIX
I hope this helps

1.
The EXT kernels are provided to keep running "older" kernels on newer hardware and newer databases.
If you´re on SunOS 2.7 you need to run 4.6D. If you´re on Solaris 2.8 (or higher) you can also use 46D_EXT.
2.
HP9000/800 is a PA-RISC CPU.
You can also check that using the "System - Status" menu entry and check on the left bottom side the architecture.
