Dears:
Is it possible to maintain a safety stock quantity for a specific product group in APO? It means we don't care about which materials it is, we just wanna set a certain safety stock level for the whole group.
Thanks for your kindly reply!
What is your safety stock strategy? Is it a basic method or is it Enhanced?
Also how do you do your planning? At a product Family level or at an individual level.
The way SS is calculated differs based on the planning area - eg 9ASNP02 vs 9ASNP05
You can have safety stock at a Product Family level if you use hierarchical (aggregated planning) and use the standard Aggregated planning area and books as a template.
Then you have to maintain the SS parameters in the masterdata for the aggregated product (product family)
You also have to decide on how to disaggregate the Safety Stock figure to the individual level (depending on how you are going to plan)

Another way of doing this if you are using the enhanced method and if you are really having a real Material in the product family leel. That will be by using PPMs to link product family to the individual products
Yet another way of doing this if you dont want to use SNP but want to do it in DP is by manipulating the SAFETY_CALC() macro but you will still have to have material master data
SAFETY_CALC( 'product' ; 'location' ; 'version' ; safety days supply ; '<name of key figure for safety days supply> ; safety stock ; '<name of key figure for safety stock>' ; key figure for planned demand ; key figure for number of workdays per period ) returns the safety stock for the location product while taking the parameters defined in the location product master data into account. If these parameters require a manual entry for the safety days' supply or the safety stock, enter a value , otherwise enter 0.

Dear all:
Let me explain my question more detail. For example: We have ten materials belong to one material group. Say we wanna maintain 1000 PC safety stock for this whole group, no matter which material is. So when we have the demand for these materials. It just needs to fulfill the certain level: 1000PC and the selection critirial maybe depends on the cost of the materials.
Is it possible in APO? If som how to do it?
Thanks for your reply,
Scott

The way I would go about is to use one of the extra attributes to group the products. Then we should be able to use MASSD transactions to set safety stock levels using that extra attribute.

you can try aggregated planning, but not sure how it will work for safety stock?
