An adapter is used to convert the source data format to XML format which XI understands and receiver adapters convert XML back to the format of the receiver system .

I you asked your question in more details then you will get lots of answers

What I mean from your word is describe below :-

XI only get and send XML messages,now if you have non-xml message lets say you have Flat file. This flat file need to be converted in XML format so XI can understand this message for required processing.

This conversion can be done with the help of Adapters..in this case we have to use File Adapter. File adapter will take the flat file from the source dir. and give convert it into XML in the Adapter Engine.

Same like if you are selecting some records from Database then its required to convert it in XML for that JDBC adapter can be used to read the records and convert it into XML format.

Hi,

If the source is a text file, then adapter plays the role to convert it into xml format which XI can understand.

same way in the receiver side.

if u want to know how message goes

in SXMB_MONI u can see that.
