after that It was asking to continue with the database

the variables are set as below

So I have started the Oracle database installation. it

is giving me an error which is given below. we have

Are you using the correct software (Oracle 9.2 for IA64) and NOT for PA-RISC?

Markus,

I am using the appropriate software, Installation Master 6.20/6.40 and a Netweaver 04SR1 Kernel, which is recommended by SAP. I was looking for

whether java1.4 runtime compatible for HP-UX IA64(11.23). I have seen in HP website saying that java1.4 can be used with HP-UX(11.23) provided related patches need to be applied. Not really sure whether it is right or not?

yes - but that installed Java is not used. Oracle brings its own JDK with it.

Did you set your kernel parameters before you start the Oracle installation?

can you tell me what are the Kernel parameters to set ?

Check

Note 172747 - HP-UX Operating System kernel parameter recommendations

also check, that you use the minimum operating system level patches:

Note 837670 - Minimum OS patch recommendations for HP-UX

Markus,

I will be setting the Kernel Parameters as recommended in the note, I have no access to check the OS patches applied or not. updating the OS team to work on that. Will let you know after we set and proceed through installation, Thank you for your prompt Replies and appreciate it.

you can check the patches with

swlist | grep -i bundle

as user root.

The kernel parameters are important and should be set on all systems.

you can check that with the above command - as I just wrote

when I check in the OS patch recommendation 837670 note there are some quality packs and the OS patches below those bundles, got some confusion and want to make clear. Does it mean that the list of OS Patches given below belong to the quality pack or we need both Quality pack and the below mentioned OS patches? might be silly to ask this.. but want to double check..

You will need the Quality Packs PLUS the mentioned PH* patches on top of that - that´s a minimum requirement.

You can get higher and some of the P* patches may become obsolete because of newer patches bundling those. The mentioned note lists the patches that are

at least

required.

Thank you , I will co-ordinate with my OS team, because as per the note we need some patches to be installed.. so will let you know the Status.. Thank You once again for your prompt responses..

your Java VM looks old, try using 1.4 java.

On Unix, each Oracle installation comes with their own JDK (because what they do there is HIGHLY operating system dependent). It doens´n matter which one you install, it will become overwritten when starting RUNINSTALLER.
