Hi

Can I use MDM 5.5 to carry out integration of master data in finance such as: Cost center, Cost element, GL Account etc. We are looking at consolidated financial reporting across multiple company codes and instance of R/3.

Just to further clarify – MDM is not in it self a reporting engine. It will enable the de-duplication process and consolidated reporting in application such as BW. The consolidated view based on the master data key fields and unique identifiers will be pushed to the various target reporting applications.

MDM 5.5 is a master data management platform and generic by design, which is able to handle different types of master data elements in a customized manner. Using MDM’s flexible tools, easy schema design and creation enables the user the tools for modeling of master financial data objects.

Some of the issues to note are: currently MDM 5.5 is shipped with pre-configured content including customized repository for specific main objects (Material, BP and Employee) including preconfigured reports for exporting the corresponding data from the R/3 system. If you plan to consolidated financial objects you will have to model the repository schema according to the financial specific key attributes (which as stated above is fully supported by MDM easy model driven and flexible schema design). this also means that it will be your responsbility to extract the master data from the source systems. In addition, if this process requires compliance with finance related standards, I suggest that these too should be reviewed when considering MDM for this task.

Thanks Kevin for the reply. You have metnioned in your reply: " if this process requires compliance with finance related standards". What exactly do you mean by that? Are you suggesting SEM-BCS?

Cheers
