Hi Krishna,
The Versions of XI are
XI 2.0
XI 3.0
PI 7.0
PI 7.1(To be released this September)
From 2004S release XI is called PI. where 'S" stands for synchoronus release.
Both XI and PI are same technically but when SAP launched Netweaver 2004s , to bring all objects of Netweaver 2004s in Synch with the WAS version, XI was renamed to Process Integration (PI 7.0) .
Currently every SP release of XI has a corresponding release for PI and they both support the same functionalities.
XI runs on Netweaver 2004 and PI runs on Netweaver 2004s.
A comparison of the service packs in 2004 and 2004s;
In 2004 - in 2004s
SP12& < - SP04
SP13+ 14 - SP05
SP15 - SP06
SP16 - SP07
SP17 - SP08
SP18 - SP09
Netweaver 7.0 = former Netweaver 2004s = integration software suite (portal 7, PI 7, BW 7 etc.) over WAS 700.
Netweaver 7.1 is next version, not released yet.
