Hi All,
We are trying a R/3-XI-MDM Scenario. We have defined a Remote system for R/3, defined a port and set the mode in there as 'Automatic'. We have also supplied a corresponding map file in the mapping field. We are triggering an IDoc (Tcode BD10) from R/3 and a File gets written in the MDM Server filesystem, within a specified directory. But we observe that until we Start the Import Manager with the System name and Port name, the data is not getting imported. Is this the default behaviour in MDM? Then, can we not automate the interface in any case? Because in any case, human intervention is required in starting Import Manager.
Regards,
Amitabha
Hi Amitabha,
The import manager is an interface where the import can be carried out with intervention, the Im is typically used while creating/modifying maps, error resolution etc. Once the map to be used is created and the scenario is to be automated, then the MDM import server can be used.
To automate the import scenario you would have to :
1. Maintain the required import map in the inbound port in console
2. Set the port processing mode to automatic as you have probably done already
3. On the server where MDM is installed , ensure that the MDM import server services are started (Start ->Administrative tools ->services->Import server->start)
4.Once again on the server maintian the stttings in the MDIS.ini file. This file contains instructions for the import server regarding automated import . It is available at c:\program files\sap mdm 5.5\import server
Once these settings are maintianed the MDM service would pick up files from the Ready folder & import data, if the import is succesful it places the file in the archive folder otherwise it is placed in the exception folder.

Hi Amitabha,
For this you need to start services of import server and Syndication server.
just go to services.msc from run window and select import server and right click on server and select "start" option.
you can do same for Syndication server also.
now you can place file in ready folder and import server pick file and process that.
please let me know if you need any clarification on this.

Ravi.

Hi Amitabha,
MDM can import or syndicate records automatically for that you need to start the Import server and syndicate server services.
After starting these services just place the file in the ready folder of the respective port folder. Thats it you are done.
