Why re-skill into Netweaver?

I work for a large insurance company that runs a large SAP back office environment. We're currently doing a review of our integration tools strategy and our development platform strategy. Our SAP rep is pushing us to look at Netweaver for both of these - but all of our skills are in other toolsets and platforms. Is there any feedback on why we should re-skill into Netweaver .. or should we stick to the platforms we're comfortable with?

SAP Netweaver is a platform. Its best used to leverage information from your large SAP databases.

Netweaver offers a fast and highly sophisticated approach to extract and visualize data from the backend.

SAP Netweaver Portal eg is used to display transactions, reports and execute function modules from the SAP Backend systems in the form of a web based product and provides single sign on. That is the user needs to login once to the portal and view data from SAP R3 without repeated login. Its also used to connect to 3rd part applns if you have any in one window.

SAP Business Intelligence eg is used to extract critical Business related info eg sales etc from the backend systems and present them as interactive graphical applications.

A lot of things can happen over netweaver.

Hi,

This might a help on why you want to go for NW:

If all your investments are purely ERP, meaning R/3 (transactions) you might have a look at the latest version of the SAP ERP, where you have also web enabled solutions. Depends all on your needs.
