Transport Management vs CHARM

Former Member

hi,

I would like to know

How to configure Transport Management via Solution Manager? Benefits of this over the normal CTS. What are the pre-requisites for achieving this?

(ii) Does the Transport Management via Solution Manager needs Charm to be configured? Or is it the other way, i.e. does CHARM functionality needs Transport Management to be configured via SolMan?

(iii) Or will CHARM work independent of whether Transport Management is via SolMan or not?

Please clarify. Any quick & useful inputs in this regard will be suitably rewarded.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hey Alagammai,

1) To configure CHARM, you need to follow all the steps given in SPRO of solution manager under node Change Request Management. There are no other Standard documentation for configuring it.

2) If you want to manage your Transport of satellite system ( wherein you import all request from satellite(Dev) TO SATELLITE(Test) TO Satellite(Prd)) through solman, then you will need to configure CHARM.

3) CHARM canot work independantly unless its configured.

Revert for any clarifcations.

hi Anand,

Thanks a lot for a quick response. So, can I understand your reply as below?

To execute transports via SolMan, Charm needs to be configured. Am I right?

(ii) Transport via SolMan, as such, does not need any seperate configuration apart from Charm configuration in SolMan.

(or)

(iii) Transport via SolMan, apart from Charm configuration needs the regular STMS configurations in the satellite system(as the pre-requisite).

(iv) Pls let me know whether (ii) or (iii) is right.

Pls clarify. Thanks a lot in advance.

Hey Alagammai,

1) Yes, you are right.

2 and 3) both are interlinked.

If you follow the SPRO of Solution manager under node Change Request management, SAP has provided the following:

1) How to configure routes in Satellite system to realize CHARM, and other related configurations which needs to be done only on Satellite system.

2) What are relevant configurations required in solman to realize CHARM.

I would advice you to just go through the documentation help given under Change request management node in SPRO of solution manager.

Revert for any clarifications.

Hello Alagammai,

In order to test this CRManagement scenario please do the following:

Create a Test Scenario

Create 03 additional clients in the SAP Solution Manager system, lets

say SMP:110, SMP:120 and SMP:130...assume that SMP:110 is the

Development systems, SMP:120 si the Quality System and the SMP:130 is

the Production System.

Then configure properly the TMS in the SAP Solution Manager system (The

SMP:100 that represents the Solman system does not need to be part of

the Transport Routes).

Configure Change Request and check the RKT material in service.sap.

com/rkt-solman

When everything in the Test scenario is running fine, then connect the

Production System landscape.

This will ensure that you do not stop the TMS in the production

landscape with testing of the escenario.

Also ensure that your transport routes are client dependent.

Hope this helps,

Dolores

Hi All ,

The standard Transport management of my Satrellite systems include two Development systems (D01 D02) , Quality (Q01) , Maintenence (M01) , Production (P01). Does the same Can be used for CHARM for transports? is it compliant ?because as per the information i gathered i came to know that only one development should be there.if that is case shud i remove the second development? but how wil i transport the changes to second dev if its not in the STMS.
