Hi All,
Our Operating system for SAP (AS/400) is planning to implement a TCP/IP
protocol called Network Time Protocol (NTP) to keep times synchronized
across all servers/systems that we have. With this, we need your
expertise for us to determine the impact of this NTP if implemented to
our SAP application system.
Is there any perquisites or standard procedures and settings for SAP
before the Network Time Protocol implementation? Or any pertinent
information that you can share with us for us to understand the impact
of this change will have on our SAP application.
I am are looking forward to any reply/help on this matter. Thank you very
much.
Hi,
there is nothing you can change in SAP, but you should know, that SAP "becomes angry" when the is set back more than 2 seconds.

Hi Volker,
Thank you for taking time to respond.
Does this means that there is nothing we can do (settings, configurations.. etc.) in SAP side for this Network Time Protocol implementation.
There is in any way we can implement NTP to our SAP Operating System (As/400)?
Does NTP works for SAP if we turn all SAP systems down before starting the time synchronization?
Best Regards,

Hi,
in SAP there is nothing to do )
Activation on i5:
e.g.:
CHGNTPA RMTSYS('ntp1.fau.de') AUTOSTART(*YES) POLLITV(720)
If you shut down SAP while activating it, this would be helpful.
This action does NOT help with daylight saving time ! SAP has other internal measures for this problem ....
=> NTP is useful for the every day changing of 2s or so ...
