Dear All,

I am in the process of upgrading from SAP 4.7 + Oracle 9 to ECC 6 + Oracle 10g.

Database is successfully upgarded to 10g and client from 8.1 to 9.2.0.7 but after db upgrade my "Oracle" does not start via startsap command.

If is start listener & then startsap .....Msg is successfull but no logon possible as DATABSE is not yet started. I hav to explicitly start Oracle from SQL plus ....

pls suggest me hwo to resolve thsi ...Kernel is 640.

I wondered because I saw the "SVR4 shared memory realm" error message.

Is member of the project you set up? And are they in /etc/user_attr?

Solaris 10 doesn´t use /etc/system any more for shared memory configuration...

Hi Ankita,

Now I think of client software.

If you are still on kernel 6.40 you need the Oracle Client 9.

Is there a client software installation under

/oracle/client/92x_64 ?

Is the ORA_NLS33 variable correctly set?

Best regards

Alfonso

Shared memory parameters have been classically defined using /etc/system (you will find a bunch of entries there). Solaris 10 uses a different approach, it uses "project" with resource controls.

Check

Note 724713 - parameter settings for Solaris 10

It´s explained there with an example.

If that configuration is not yet done, Oracle may or may not work, depending on your configuration.

Hi Markus,

As per note 724713, I have added a project and modified /etc/user_attr file : Still Oracle Database is not starting via "startsap" cmd.

Pls tell em -

Do i need to set resource settings for user root als as given in point 3 of note. ??? If yes tehn wil it be the same.

Hi Anika,

I suggest the following:

- shut down SAP

- shut down Oracle

- close the actual shell

- open a new shell

- try to start both DB + SAP with "startsap"

if that does not work, please check your Oracle alert.log for error messages.

Root does only need to be in the project for the installation,later it´s deleted.

I have only one idea left.. which kernel version are you using?

It may be a timing error or something like that, I think of that because apparently the database gots correctly started but startsap does not detect that for some reason.

Markus....

I don't understand wat do u mean by timing error .........n wat shd i do now?? I acnnot proceed with SAP upgrade without resolving this error.

I mean with timing error, that startsap tries to start the database and doesn't wait long enough until the database is open.

Short solution: Start the system manually and repeat you actual phase if you're in the middle of the upgrade.

Longer solution: Open an OSS call under BC-UPG and ask SAP for assistance. If this is a production upgrade, I suggest using prio "very high".

Okies ....no i cannot start my SAP Upgrade cos its asking path of STARTSAP & STOPSAP in Initialization Phase and then the phase tries to stop & Start SAP and phase is cancelled with errors. Thsi si essentila to proceed ....else how il it go to shadow insatnce.

I have found something:

Note 809477 - startsap and stopsap <= SAP WebAs 640

This correction is pretty new and it has a fix for Solaris.

I suggest trying those two scripts also, I think, the support will suggest them to update neverless

Hello Markus,

This also didn't work for me ....n after so many changes since yesterday i am geting new error if SAP starts up in 3 steps ie. listener, oracle and SAP.

I am geting dump on initial logon only now -

Runtime Error START_CALL_SICK

SICK shows: DB release ORACLE is not supported with this kernel (640)

Severe problems were detected during initial system check.

Please, do not use that system before fixing these problems.

God knows ..................wats going on .......i don't knw how to resolve it noiw.

I am stuck up badly.

bye ....wil update u if resolved

if you are using Oracle10 you have to upgrade the kernel to the newest patchlevel (dw*.car and lib_dbsl.car).

check here:

http://service.sap.com/patches

--> Entry by Application Group

--> SAP NetWeaver

--> SAP NETWEAVER

--> SAP NETWEAVER 04

--> Entry by Component

--> Application Server ABAP

--> SAP KERNEL 6.40 64-BIT (UNICODE)

--> Solaris on SPARC 64bit

Here download the FULL kernel (not only dw*.sar):

SAPEXE.SAR (OS independent)

SAPEXEDB.SAR (Oracle)

Hello,

If it works manually (with ora<sid>) but does not work fine with startsap (<sid>adm), the problem is probably in the environment variable settings. I would especially check that ORA_NLS33 is set to

/oracle/client/92x_64/ocommon/nls/admin/data
