Hi

A storage location is the place where stock is physically kept within a plant.

A storage location has the following attributes:

There may be one or more storage locations within a plant.

A storage location has a description and at least one address.

It is possible to store material data specific to a storage location.

Stocks are managed only on a quantity basis and not on a value basis at storage location level.

Physical inventories are carried out at storage location level.

A storage location can be assigned to a warehouse number in the Warehouse Management System. You can assign more than one storage location to the same warehouse number within a plant.

Storage locations are always created for a plant.

A warehouse complex is represented in the Warehouse Management system as a warehouse number that is used to identify a complex warehouse setup. The physical location is usually decisive for assigning the definition of the warehouse number. A warehouse number groups together storage types and storage bins that are organized and maintained as a complete unit.

All warehouse procedures, such as stock placements and stock removals of materials, are always executed within a warehouse number.

A warehouse number has the following characteristics:

A warehouse number does not have an address, but a short descriptive text.

It is possible to store material data that is specific to a warehouse number.

Within each warehouse number, the stock figures are managed as quantities, not as values.

Within a plant it is not possible to assign several storage locations to the same warehouse number.

Example Warehouse numbers

Central Warehouse Berlin.....Whse number 001 Trading Goods Whse Munich... Whse number 002

Standard settings

In the SAP standard system, warehouse numbers 001 and 002 are preset.

Recommendation

SAP recommends that you keep the warehouse number 001 if you wish to manage only one warehouse complex.

For this you only need to adapt a small number of tables.

hi,

SAP Warehouse Management (SAP WM) is a component of SAP Logistics Execution system (SAP LES) and deals with the following tasks: Inventory management in randomly-organized and fixed-bin storage types; Processing all relevant movements and tasks in the warehouse, such as goods receipt, goods issue, movements within the warehouse; Inventory.

A storage location is maintained inside a plant from where we draw the stocks.

In order to have a material Warehouse managed we need to maintain the Warehouse Mgt 1 / Warehouse Mgt 2 views for the material master.

In case of normal picking we can directly draw the stocks from the required storage location but incase of WM we need to save the delivery first and create a transfer order with LT03. After selecting stock from the required bin, we need to confirm the trasnfer order with LT12. After all the picking activity is completed we can come delivery in VL02N do packing as the need may be and complete PGI.

a small example in our case we have a third party vendor doing all the WM activities for us and who is located in a different place where we create deliveries. So all such deliveries are picked up and sent to the third party through FTP and he does the picking, packing and PGI.

Thanks

Storage Location:

They are created within a plant. An organizational unit allowing differentiation between the various stocks of a material in a plant.

Warehouse Management:

A system for defining and managing warehouse structures in one or several plants.

You use the SAP WM component deals for the following tasks:

  • Inventory management in randomly-organized and fixed-bin storage types

  • Processing all relevant movements and tasks in the warehouse, such as goods receipt, goods issue, movements in the warehouse

  • Inventory

The warehouse is activated by assigning it to a combination of plant and storage location. The interim storage bins are created in T.code: LX20 and storage bins in the warehouse using T.Code: LS01N.

If you want further information, post your mail ID. I will send material on it.
