iViews vs. NetWeaver

My boss is claiming that there is a difference between creating iViews for Portal 6 or Portal 7 and creating iViews using the NetWeaver platform using a Middleware such as XI.

If that is true - is there a documentation out there explaining such differences?

Sorry, I guess I was not clear.

I know already about iViews.

My questions should have been what are the differenct Architecture in implementing just the Portal against Netweaver Architecture.

And what are the pros and cons.
