The total size of I drive where all my data files is there is 64 GB and free space in it is 13.6 GB . Plz revert why this error is occuring? when here iam adding a data file its new size is 420 MB and autoextend size is 20 MB only na .................and free sapce in I drive is 13.6 gb then why is it giving error?Plz revert

Secondly i also want to know what exactly does happen when iam increasing the tablespace size ,how the data files are added and suppose if a tablespace contains data files in two separate drives in two folders then when we increase the tablespace size, where wll the data file corresponding to tat tablespace formed?

Also can we define the size of new data file formed and autoextend size also .

Plz detail the entire procedure corresponding to tablespace increase with wt exactly happens when it is done, bcoz iam a bit confused.

A helpful detailes solution sahll be appreciated. If a document could be snd supporting it ,it shall be helpful. my Email Id is reachme.saumya@gmail.com .

Somya ,

Please check the path of the datafile to be added .I:\oracle\SMD\sapdata2\sr3_12\sr3.data12 ..i believe it should be sapdata12 instead sapdat2 i.e I:\oracle\SMD\sapdata12\sr3_12\sr3.data12 ...Please let me know the update..Hope this will solve the issue.

Your tablespaces are created using autoextend. The error message you see is, that there´s not enough space to autoextend them to the maximum (10000 MB) because there´s not enough filesystem space.

But free space in i drive is 13.6 gb .

yes - but there's not enough space for ALL files reaching 10 GB... that's what brspace is talking about.

If you have 8 files there and all 8 have a maxsize of 10 GB you need to have 80 GB space.

didnt get it,when iam increasing a tablespace iam adding just 420 mb size datfile na. then y it need 10 Gb for each datfile. In tat case in i drive my total siz is 64 gb ,till now there are 11 data files formed 10 files of size 1.95 gb and last 11th one of 420 MB ,i got error while creating 12th file.

Then for 11 files ,it should require 1100 GB size which is not there?

Also when iam adding a single data file ,wld it check space for all other data files ? if not wll it give error............................................completely confused...................................if u could explaiin in detail,it shall be helpful.

Yes - that's your problem.

See what you gave:

7 - Maximum file size in MB (maxsize) ..... [10000]

that means, that the file can increase up to 10 GB (using extents). By default, all files are configured like this (this is Oracle), and now brspace is telling you, that there's not enough space to add another datafile because the maximum size of all files is bigger than your harddisk.

Somya, check your parameters:

1 * Last added file name (lastfile) ....... [I:\ORACLE\SMD\SAPDATA2\SR3_11\SR3.

DATA11]

2 * Last added file size in MB (lastsize) . [420]

3 - New file to be added (file) ........... [I:\oracle\SMD\sapdata2\sr3_12\sr3.

data12]

4 # Raw disk / link target (rawlink) ...... []

5 - Size of the new file in MB (size) ..... [420]

6 - File autoextend mode (autoextend) ..... [yes]

7 - Maximum file size in MB (maxsize) ..... [10000]

8 - File increment size in MB (incrsize) .. [20]

option 2: your datafile will use 420MB to begin with.

option 7: it can grow up to 10000MB

option 8: it will grow with increments of 20MB

so, you need at least 10GB in your filesystem.

your warnings are saying that datafiles of 3 tablespaces, if they grow to their maximum file size, will overflow your filesystem (PSAPSR3,PSAPSR3700,PSAPSR3DB).

solutions:

1. increase filesystem size

2. decrease value of maximum size of datafiles, I would especially check the maximum size of ALL datafiles of PSAPSR3.

3. move some datafiles on another filesystem.

good luck.

ALL (read: ALL) files were created using a max size of 10 GB so ALL files together must fit with the maximum size on your harddisk, which is not the case.

It's NOT about the single file you are adding but ALL files.

As of my knowledge, when you increase the size of the table space, the data file gets used. Now which data file is used is shown while adding the space itself.Inyour case I think its sapdata12.While the other questions remains for which I would also like to know the solution and also the solution for your error.

Hope it could clear some fog from your mind.
