Hi.
Can I run SAP Gui 6.40 on my PC with MS Vista or do I have to install SAP Gui 7.10

Only SAP GUI 7.10 will work with Vista.

in my system i am using sap gui 6.40 only , o.s is vista, its working properly..

In this is states that SAP GUI 7.10 is supported under Vista.
It may work with lower versions, but not recommended/supported.
