brarchive/brbackup fails after oracle upgrade from 9206 to 10.2.0.2

Former Member

I have upgraded database from 9206 to 10.2.0.2. I have upgraded brtools

to kernel release 7.00 (patch level 18). When I run brbackup/brarchive

it is failing. Brarchive command I am trying to run is:

brarchive -c -u / -r initTC8.utl.nbkp.ethp2038 -cs

I have set trace level to 15 (BR_TRACE=15) and run it. I will upload

log file with the trace (file_name=advxsuvv.cps)

I am running brarchive as ORASID user with environment:

[ac8558@ethp2038:/oracle/stage/102_64/client]$ env|grep oracle

HOME=/oracle/TC8

PATH=/oracle/TC8/102_64/bin:.:/oracle/TC8:/usr/sap/TC8/SYS/exe/run:/usr/bin:/usr/ccs/bin:/usr/contrib/bin:/opt/nettladm/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/contrib/bin/X11:/usr/vue/bin:/opt/soeg/bin:/opt/perf/bin:/opt/upgrade/bin:/opt/hpnp/bin:/opt/lrom/bin:/usr/local/bin:/opt/openssh/bin:/opt/openssh/sbin

SHLIB_PATH=/usr/sap/TC8/SYS/exe/run:/oracle/TC8/102_64/lib

ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/TC8/102_64

ORACLE_BASE=/oracle

ORA_NLS10=/oracle/TC8/102_64/nls/data

SAPDATA_HOME=/oracle/TC

[ac8558@ethp2038:/oracle/stage/102_64/client]$ env|grep LIB

DIR_LIBRARY=/usr/sap/TC8/SYS/exe/run

SHLIB_PATH=/usr/sap/TC8/SYS/exe/run:/oracle/TC8/102_64/lib

[ac8558@ethp2038:/oracle/stage/102_64/client]$ env|grep NLS

ORA_NLS10=/oracle/TC8/102_64/nls/data

NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8DEC

All other brtools actions works fine (brspace, brconnect...)

From advxsuvv.cps file find error message:

Hello,

You should contact with the backint provider.

This error:

<quote>

<i>BR0279E Return code from '/usr/sap/TC8/SYS/exe/run/backint -u TC8 -f backup -i /oracle/TC8/saparch/.advxsuvv.lst -t file

-p /oracle/TC8/102_64/dbs/initTC8.utl.nbkp.ethp2038 -c': 2</i>

<quote>

only means that the backint program ( interface between brbackup/brarchive and non SAP backup program like tivoli or HP omniview or ... ) has failed.

The reason, it is not on the piece you have provided, should be before.

You should provide also information about what tool you are using, perhaps someone that uses the same tool is looking at this thread and can provide you with more information.

Have you checked with the backup/backint provider that the version you are using is released for 10g and/or BR* tools 700?

You have the wrong backint program, the version you have is for PA-RISC processor and will not run on IA64.

You will need to get a backup client for Itanium-2.

can you please advise me how to upload files to this thread.

I am using netbackup. Not sure about the version , but I know that we are using the same version of netbackup on our PA-RISK servers with HP UX 11.11 and backups are running fine after the upgrade (with the same process of upgrade and same BRTools version for PA-RISK of course). This is our first test upgrade on Itanium HP UX server with IA64 11.23 OS.

Andrija,

this forum does not accept attachments, so, a workaround people use is to copy and paste log file contents here.

Are you running the PA-RISC tools on the IA64 box?

What do you see when you enter the command

file /usr/sap/TC8/SYS/exe/run/backint

Does it come back with something like "ELF-64 executable object file - IA64"?
