Procedure for XI Development

Former Member
0 Kudos

Hi Experts,

I am just fresher/learned for XI3.0 and have 2 yrs. experience on Java Technologies including ABAP knowledge.

Could you pls. explain me like...

1) How the Functional/Technical Specification looks like.. and after we receive Technical Specification, what is our first step to starts the development?

2) who will creates the Business system and Business system parameters? like BASIS guys or XI developers?

3) Suppose, my organization is having R/3 systems as well as legacy systems.. if it's the case then where exactly XI would helpful (specific cases) here?

Regards,

YRaj.

Hi Monika,

I have received your TS..but, i couldn't able to understand and definetely i can't do (develop the interfaces) anything based on this document....don't mine..

If it is the case, then could you pls explain me like... what is your first step to proceed further based on this TS.

Thanks & Regards,

YRaj.

Hi

In the simplest approach..

Begin with stating your requirements and then come out with possible solutions. For each solution try to bring out its pros and cons. Then finally if you have a solution state the end to end scenario.

State what will the source and target. What objects you will prepare in the IR.What Communication Channel you will use and why it is the most appropriate one.

Define your testing parameters.

Thanks Mr. Seshagiri.

So, you mean to say we have to prepare Technical Specification as a Developer(XI), and also Business Systems also will create at SLD as a Basis guy... Am i right?? what are the Business system parameters?

and could you pls more elaborate on my 3rd question? and also what could be the legacy systems (examples)?

Hi Monika,

Thanks for your replies and 2nd question was cleared. But, what are the Business system parameters here?

>>-R/3 is storing data in the form of BAPI's RFC's IDoc's etc.

But, without using XI also we can do the process(integration)...as well as XI is more costly if you compare with others...

I know XI is having central monitoring and uses webservices like XML and particularly suits for IDOCS and RFC's.

But, is there any strong business requirement ...to use XI for SAP and non-SAP systems.

Hi Kumar,

>>>>>as well as XI is more costly if you compare with others...

Where did u get that news from ?

XI reduces TCO.

Sumit

Hi

Agreed XI requires licensing and therefore its ownership cost is very high. But BAPI's RFC's IDoc's etc are very specific to SAP and are not understood in the same format by Non-SAP systems. So with the help of XI (which understands only XML )..they are converted into XML format and then converted into the format understood by the other system.

Business system parameters are defined when you are defining the Business systems and Technical systems.

Thanks

Hi,

Even when i started on XI i had read documents and some presentation where it talked about lower TCO but thats not the case. Licensing cost of XI is very high. Here it doesn't depend on the number of user but the amount of data being transferred. Infact i havn't heard of any clients who are midsize organization and have opted for XI.

<b>Cheers,

Hi,

>>>Here it doesn't depend on the number of user but the amount of data being transferred

But data transfer between SAP-SAP is free.

Hi,

<i>1) How the Functional/Technical Specification looks like.. and after we receive Technical Specification, what is our first step to starts the development?</i>

>>>>You will Receive Functional Speck And You need to Prepare Technical Speck

<i>2) who will creates the Business system and Business system parameters? like BASIS guys or XI developers?</i>

>>>It is Based on the Situation , Normally BASIS People Will do that Creation of TS & BS For Web As ABAP and All

3<i>) Suppose, my organization is having R/3 systems as well as legacy systems.. if it's the case then where exactly XI would helpful (specific cases) here?</i>

>>>If in Your Organization there is a Oracle Development And SAP , but You want to Integrate both for Business Purpose Means then SAP XI Will be Useful in Integrating those Two.

Reward Points if Helpful

Hi

Send me your mail id.I shall send you a template of technical specification which i have.

Hi

It all depends who creates the Business System or Business System parameters. Most of the time it is the developers who do it.If the scenario/BS configurations is very complex then it may be taken over by the Basis people.

Specific cases where XI will be useful:

-R/3 is storing data in the form of BAPI's RFC's IDoc's etc.

If you want to transfer data which is there in the R/3 system you may use Idoc Scenario to handle this.

-Suppose you want to generate a response too apart from transferring data then you use the RFC's from the R/3 system.

Thanks.

Hi as a starter in XI

just refre these links ....
