generating new field in CMR

In addition to the 3 fields in customer master(general data,sales data,ccd data)

i want to add a customized field.How to configure it? Do we need to use

userexit? In what table do we need to add the field?

Actually client requirement is of a customer group field having 8 char

which is not possible in std format.So to create this field i will require

a new tab field.i hope this clears the reqmt.
