Acknowledgments are like confirmation codes, receipt, transmission confirmations, approval codes etc - basically saying to the sending system - "yes, the IDOC adapter has passed your message" or "no, the IDOC adapter failed to pass your message"
ALEAUD is the IDOC used for handling Acknowledgments in an SAP scenario. You can use these in SAP to SAP communication or SAP to External communication - depending on your business requirement.
You can switch this requirement off in XI and/or the business system (depending on which backend it is. E.g CRM vs R/3/ECC). On XI the transaction is IDXNOALE.
