Planning a Production Portal Install; have a DI question...

Right now we're running NW2004sSR1 EP7 SPS12 on a developmental box. This box has usages types EP, DI and BI installed on it.

I'm about to start working on a production portal installation. I know that I'll need the BI aspect installed as well as EP, but am wondering if I will need any part of Development Infrastructure installed on my production box for it to work correctly?

We aren't using the DI I have installed on the dev box currently, but ideally in the future, we will. I know NWDI works with the SLD; right now we don't really have a dedicated system for our SLD...it's basically our EP development box and since we've only had one real system in our SLD (our dev box) we haven't been able to really test how it all works. I have a couple developers working from NWdevelopment studio and they deploy right to the development box.

So basically, we're looking at the following scenario in the near future. a development box (call it EPD) with EP, BI and DI installed, a central production box (call it EPP1) with EP, BI, and a dialog instance of the production server (call it EPP2).

Can anyone give me some insight as to whether or not my EPP will need a part of DI installed on it? As well, do you think having my SLD on my EPD(development) box will cause problems?

I'll award points for any helpful answers.

Thanks so much!

Beau

Hi,

You dont need DI installed in your production system (EPP) You can use DI of developement box.

Regarding SLD there are several scenarios for it

1. you can have a central SLD for all your system (most common scenario)

2. Seperate SLD for DEV/QA and for production (used to safegaurd the production system)

3. Separate SLD for NWDI (NWDI makes use of SLD as name server during design time)

Please check the SLD planning guide under http:
