Is there any difference between the division entered on the Customer master data and that Material Master data. Are the divisions supposed to be the same.
Hi,
The division in Customer Master and Material Master is bit different.
If you put a perticuler division while creating customer Master, that means, that customer can buy ( or can place the order) for those materials which are in that division.
If you put a peticuler division in Material Master, means that material belings to that division.
If both the divisons are same, then you wont be getting any error while processing sales cycle.
But if both the divisions are different, then while creating the sales order, then we will face an error, that the material does not belings to the division. You cant process with that.
For that you have to configure common divisions, in IMG activity.
With this the customer of a perticuler division can process with other division material.
Hope this is clear.
REWARD IF HELPFUL.

The division entered in the customer master ensures that the customer belongs to the sales area that the division is part of.
The division in the material master is for the material that is assigned to that division.
The customer from one particular division can always buy goods from other divisions.
The sales order created for a customer can contain items belonging to different divisions.
Hope I was able to explain you.

Hi Luckson,
The division entered in the material master is a logical grouping of materials. eg) Cosmetics, Two-Wheeler. A material can be assigned to only one division.
The division in the customer master tells us from which division can the customer buy products.

While the selections of available divisions are the same, the functionality can be different.
In Sales Order Create, the Material entered has to match the Sales Order division created, or you will get an error.
There is some config you can play with (Item division on the sales document type, etc) or you may also want to investigate Common Division configuration.
Read up on these and play around a little in your sandbox system
