hello experts,
I am confused with the three profiles located in directory /sapmnt/<SID>/profile, they are <SID>_<Instance>_<hostname>, START_<Instance>_<hostname>, and DEFAULT.PEL, what is each profile used for? what is the difference?
Thanks

- default is for common system parameters (loaded by all instances)
- start is for starting of the specific instance processes
- instance is for specific instance parameters (may override the values in default)

i'd never maintain the profiles by hand. use transaction RZ10 instead.
there are only two kinda profiles you need to maintain (but be careful!):
Start profile, which manages the start of the instance and the one without start, which defines some instance-parameters (called instance profile)
Please reward points for helpful answers,
