can you give a clear idea on R/3 vsR/2 vs non-SAP system????
hi,
R3 refers three tier architecture having 3 layers Presentation, Appllicatiion and Database layer.
R2 refers two tier, first layer is Presentation and second is Application and Database.
Non Sap systems refers to the systems which are not sap like a j2ee server, .net server or whatever.

Hi
The R/3 Basis system is multi-tier Client/Server system.
-Database Layer
This layer consists of a central database system contains all of the data in the R/3 System
Components : DBMS & Database itself
-Application Layer
This layer consists of one or more application server and Message server
Message server is responsible for communication between the application servers
-Presentation Layer
This layer interfaces with R/3 System & Users
Initially we had r/2 systems with 2 layers i.e. Presentation layer and Database layer (combination of Database and Application logic)
SAP systems are for example - CRM Systems, ERP Systems.R/3 is a SAP system.Any other system that does not belong to SAP can be treated as non-SAP systems like the legacy file systems etc.
Thanks
Hi,
R/2 means, two tire architecture. It means it contains presentation on one side and application and database on other side.Mainframe systems are the best example for this type of architecture.
R/3 means, 3 tire architecture. Its a client-server architecture where one represents presentation, second one is application and third is database. best example for such type of systems is current SAP R/3 systems.
non-SAP systems means any system that is not from SAP. for example JAVA,MS SQL, Oracle Apps, and soon.
