Requested to Revert to these two queries at earliuest as iam struggling since long.

Somya,

is Y: a network drive: Yes or NO

if Yes, then it is quite normal that this works on the command prompt but not in DB13.

DB13 uses user ID SAPserviceSMD, this user ID DOES NOT have Y: connected and this will never work.

Please use
servername\sharename\directory instead.

I repeat, your actual setup will never work in DB13... unless you go back to Windows NT 4.0

Why is that? because since Windows 2000, Microsoft has changed this behavior. in old times, when you mounted a drive, it was accessible to all users. This was a security risk and Microsoft blocked it.
I hope this answers your question.

Hello Markus,

Y is a mapped drive on solman server which exists on another server which has OS 2000 as T drive , i also tried mapping onto another server's drive which has OS 2003 , there also its failing.

Now wt i hv done:i went to tat server whose name is biwdev , shared the folder backuponline08082007 on tat drive (T drive of biwdev which is mapped on to my solmana s Y drive ) to everyone with all privileges and the share name i kept as backuponline08082007 only.

After tat i defined <b>backup_root_dir =
biwdev\backuponline08082007\backuponline08082007</b> parameter in initSMD.sap and started scheduling backup in db13 ,it still gave the same error:

biwdev\backuponline08082007 is probably not good.

with SIDADM, type this command:

net use

supply results and I will tell you what you should use as backup_root_dir.

if you find any answers useful, provide points.

Hi,

You have to apply the note 988038, to schedule the back up from db13. And your initSMD.sap should be having the permission like this, its owner should be orasid user and group should be dba. To take the redo log backup you have to select the function -s and schedule the backup it will work.

from OS level, login as SAPSERVICE[SID], then try:

DIR
biwdev\y$\backuponline08082007

if it asks for username/password, this will not work.

Its not taking this path at all, not recognissing ,

its taking
biwdev\t$\backuponline08082007 path w/o user name and password but i tried to se tat path also in backup_root_dir but isnt working.I think it cannot accept network drives at all.......................i hv given up now.................

if it does not recognize the mentioned path is because it does not have proper authorizations to read it.

That means that you have not shared it properly. Review the authorizations of the shared directory

Hello,

As Eric asked, please supply initSMD.sap.

Again It seems that your Y drive is not reachable fronm your server

try to do this:

- change backup_root_dir to G:/oracle/SMD/sapbackup or where sapbackup is located

- start the backup but dont choose ALL

brbackup.exe -p initSMD.sap -d disk -t online -m SYSTEM, this will backup SYSTEM and you will see if it is OK

Thanks

one more thing.

if the Y: drive a network drive and you are running on Windows 2000 or above, this will not work. you will need to use the full qualified path such as
server\share\directory

your SYSTEM oracle account is locked, to unlock:

alter user system account unlock;

alter profile default limit failed_login_attempts unlimited;

exit;

then, try again.

Hello eric,

I hv unlocked the sytem oracle account through these commands and now the cmd <b>brbackup -u system/<pass> -c force -t online -m full -p initSMD.sap -a -c force -p initSMD.sap</b> is ruuning fine ,now i hv a few problems and questions to ask:

1. When iam scheduling Full online+Redo logs backup through db13 its failing ,the job completes with error and gives following message:

<b>Job log

Step 001 started (program RSDBAJOB, variant &0000000000024, user ID ASYSADM)

BR0054I BRBACKUP terminated with errors

External program terminated with exit code 3

BRBACKUP returned error status E

Job finished </b>

If after this i run the command:

<b>brbackup -u system/<pass> -c force -t online -m full -p initSMD.sap -a -c force -p initSMD.sap </b> in command prompt the backup runs successfully showing progress in action logs of the same job scheduled in db13 but the logs there still show the same message and after tat backup runs successfully? Do we need to run this coomand frm command prompt also after scheduling Db13 backup job also inorder to complete db13 backup?and alone scheduling db13 backup doesnt work?

2. While scheduling backup through db13 ,wt normal option is suggested , i went for FULL ONLINE backup+ Redo Logs ,the logs of which gave the following traces ,i saw an error in between although the complete backup run was shown to be successful and completed with error code 0 :

It seems Y doesnt exist in your server or permissions are missing

What is the drives you have mapped in the server?

What the permissions of the drive?

drive Z: looks very much like networkdriveletter????

by the way:

disk_copy_cmd copy

means that a cmd.exe's copy is invoked.

you can try to reproduce the problem by running this command out of the command box.

reasons:

no 100 GB free space on the target volue, disk quotas enabled and no more quotas etc.

Hi,

disk_copy_cmd specifies the <b>copy command</b> to be used <b>to copy files</b> to <b>local disks</b>.

disk_copy_cmd = copy|dd|rman

copy: Data is copied by a cp (UNIX) or copy (Windows NT)

dd: Data is copied by dd command to disk.
