1)Can we turn off archivelogmode ? If no then can we run a cron job which will delete the files.

2)What is /oracle/<SID>/sapbackup directory meant for?why is it always mounted ?

3)/oracle/<ORACLE_SID>/sapdata4 is meant for ?can we remove this after installation.

4) backup strategies in case we are using BR Tools.

Helpful answers will be rewarded , incase supporting documents are also provided will be grateful.

Hi Mr Vinod,

Thanks for a quick update ,

1) If we refer to http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/a2/e12840d89d185de10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm

it says not to switch of Logoff mode.

2)Why is the directory mounted and how is the backup done is it automatically.

3)What kind of datafiles are there inside.

Thanks

Pankaj,

For PROD systems it is recmd to run in Archive log Mode, These files archive log files required in case of recovery. If u dont want to loose data at any point of time you need to run in Archive log mode. If you dont care about data in case of failure run in no archive log mode.

/oracle is the place where all your necessary files are placed in your case.It should be mounted.Means you have access al files in /oracle.

Regarding backup you go through help.sap.com and BRtools.Automated backup is possible through DB13 or Backup software or BRTools or Crontacb Etc...

What kind of datafiles ? Datafiles are the files which will have all data in the database.Have a look on help.sap.com you have answers to all your doubts.

Hi,

note that SAP will not support you in case of problems if your production is not running in archivelog mode.

Note allso that you WILL lose data if you are not running in archivelog mode and a media recovery has to be done.

Check SAP note 863417.

Check the oracle concept manual for details about redo logs and archive modes.

Note that you also will run into problems if you decide to run archive log mode and simply delete the redo logs without backing them up.
