SAP-Instance can not be started

Former Member

Hello Community,

I got a problem starting the application server via SAP MMC. Each time I try to start the server the symbols of the control panel do not turn to any colour and the syslog contains the following entry:

'SAP-Basis System: Operating system call getservbyname_ failed (error no. 0)'

Does anyone have an idea how to solve the problem?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Regards

Rüdiger

Hello Rüdiger,

Which version are you talking about? ABAP or Java?

Perhaps you are not connected to a network and need to install a loopback adapter as described in the documentation contained in the download archive.

Hello Klaus,

Thanks for your assistance. I am not very experienced regarding tecnical aspects of SAP and therefore very glad to find someone who seems to be firm with the installation. To answer your questions:

I installed the ABAP Version of Netweaver, downloaded from SAP-pages 2 days ago. The installation went Ok except the creation of the MMC-Console which I installed manually from path '/SAP/sapmmc.

Since I am not connected to any network I installed the Loopback-Adapter and it seems to be ready.

IP-Adress: 10.10.0.10

Subnet: 255.255.255.0

It works with 10 MBit/s and counts minutes and secondes like it should, I guess

Nevertheless I get the following information when starting the Instance:

TRACE Information!!!!

Starting WebService thread

SapSSLInit failed => https support disabled

Webservice named pipe thread started, listening on port

.pipesapcontrol_00

Webservice thread started, listening on port 50013

rwa is starting R/3 System at 2007/08/01 20:37:07

SAP-R/3-Startup Program

Starting at 2007/08/01 20:37:07

Startup Profile: "C:SAPNSPSYSprofileSTART_DVEBMGS00_Fritz"

Starting Programs

(3672) Execute: C:SAPNSPSYSexe unstrdbmsONCE.cmd

(3668) Execute: C:SAPNSPSYSexe unsaplicense.EXE -demonsp

(1364) CreateProcess: C:SAPNSPSYSexe unmsg_server.EXE pf=C:SAPNSPSYSprofileNSP_DVEBMGS00_Fritz

SYSLOG-Entry after Start!!!!!

SAP-Basis System: Stop Msg Server, PID 904

SAP-Basis System: Operating system call getservbyname_ failed (error no. 0 )

SAP-Basis System: Start Msg Server, 1 times since system startup. PID 904

SAP-Basis System: Buffer SCSA Generated with Length 4096

Obviously the call to the server-instance fails - but why?

Hello Rüdiger,

Are you able to ping your hostname (Fritz I guess)?

If not, have you add the relevant entry in your hosts file?

Please check the thread

Hope this helps.

may be better to look at %windir%\drivers\etc\services

See note

<a href="https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/896973">Note 896973 - Service 'xyz' unknown; error in getservbyname/getaddrinfo</a>

how to check it.

Hello Klaus,

following your link I finally succeded starting the server process. I now see a node for the SAP-system, for an instance (Fritz 0) and the related process 'msg_server.exe' and these icons are all green. However there is no icon for the SAP-Database - shouldn't it be there?

'Ping' to 'Fritz' does not work although content of file 'hosts' seems to be OK.

'Ping' to 'localhost' works

Content of 'hosts'

127.0.0.1 localhost

10.10.0.10 Fritz

When trying to logon via sapgui I get the following message:

'partner 127.0.0.1:sapdp00' not reached

Error No 10061

Connection refused

Could You please give me a further hint?

Thank You very much!

Best Regards

Rüdiger

Hello Rüdiger,

Is the loopback adapter up and running? Within the HTML documentation included in the download archive is a description how to set up the loopback adapter.

Have you checked the services file for the entry 3600?

Hello Klaus,

all settings are correctly done. But I found the problem.

Norton Internet Security blocks the ping to 10.10.0.10. When switched off the ping works. Although I configured the firewall for the IP-Adress it does not work. But I can't switch off the firewall permanently. So I first have to fix that bug with Symantec. But even if I succeed doing so there is no hope for login because I cannot find any folder 'C:sapdb' on my PC. That means there is no database available and I have to download the MAXDB-File from SAP and to install the database separately. But how can I then connect the database to the Netweaver-Installation? All of that seems to me as an endless procedure .

Best Regards from droopy

Hello Rüdiger,

Could it be that you had a previous version of max db installed. I guess you face the problem discussed here:

Please follow the steps described there.

Kind regards,

Klaus

Hello Klaus,

Many Thanks for your advice. After configuring the Norton firewall settings (which is not easy at all) I followed your link and finally got all the Netweaver components installed. Now I hopefully soon can start performing some training lessons on 'Netweaver BI'.

There is one last question which perhaps you could answer to me:

I am experienced on the SAP moduls IM, PS,CO and I'd like to install these components of SAP ERP in order to create some realistic scenarios for the Business Warehouse. Are there any downloads available?

Once more Many Thanks for your help

Best Regards

Hello Rüdiger,

As far as I know there are no demo downloads for the moduls you mentioned. The intention of the SAP NetWeaver Trial Version is to let the user experience the SAP Application Server and ABAP (in other download JAVA) programming language.

Kind regards,

Klaus
