Hi,

We are planning to do OS & DB Upgrade in new hardware( i series 550) with OS/ 400 and SAP 4.0B. Can anybody provide me some useful documents which are relevant to our scenario? one more thing is our old(V5R2) kernel is not EXT kernel, so we need to upgrade this before ?(I am attaching copy of V5R2(old) kernel). We are opting Go RESTORE-->23 (userdata only) in new box(V5R4).

Hi Hariprasad K,

at least you need the new kernel on the new box ... => I would strongly recommend, to activate that one on V5R2 already, as this gives you the safety, that it will work on V5R4 as well ...

What else is needed ?

At least a new license for SAP, as the QSRLNBR might change.

You need to run DLTR3PKG sid

If the hostname & the IP stay the same, this might be the way ...

Hello Hariprasad K,

you currently have the so called 4.0B_COM Kernel which is supported from V4R4 to V5R2. To go beyond V5R2 you need to switch to the so called 4.0B_EXT Kernel which ist supported from V5R1 to V5R4. The overlap of these two Kernels are exactly the two releases V5R1 and V5R2. I agree with the strategy outlined by Volker.

I would like to use the opportunity to mention that the next releases after V5R4 (IBM recently just stated that this will be called "V6R1" and it will announced in 2008) will not be certified for SAP products that have entered "Customer Specific Maintenance" at the time of IBM V6R1 GA. Example: It will not be allowed to run SAP R/3 3.1I, 4.0B, 4.5B and 4.6B with IBM V6R1.
