We faced similar doubts and could not get the clear answer.

The difference is - Common Distribution Channel concept is used when dealing with Master data (Customers, Condition) and Combine Distribution Channel concept is used when dealing with assignation to Sales Order Types.

In case we did not have this features, we would have been forced to maintain huge number of master data and also huge number of assignation for each sales order. Both Common and Combine helps us to reduce the data maintenance.

Hi,

Ref Sales Org & Dist Chann, Div is for reducing the number sales area you need to assign for allowing a perticular Sales Doc in this the common division and distribution channel will not work.

but for master data like Customer, material and CMIR you have to useCommon Division and Dist Chanel. and in this yo ucan not use Ref Sales Org & Dist Chann, Div.

the use is same but purpose is different. bit are used to reduce sales Area assignment respectively in their fields.

Hope this clarifies your

<b><u>Reference division/ Distribution Channel/ Sales Organization</u></b>:

<i>For sales order IMG> Sales and Distribution> Sales> Sales Document> Sales Document header> Assign Sales order type to permitted sales area</i>.

Note: in this you have option to combine Sales org, Dist chann and div as per requirement. But this will be only valid for Sales order only and will not apply on any master data. This will help as we need not to extend the SALES ORDER TYPE to all the DIVISION/ DISTRIBUTION CHANEL/ SALES ORGANIZATION.

<u><b>Common division/ Distribution Channel:</b></u>

<u>For master data: Like Customer master / material master and condition records.

IMG> Sales and Distribution> Master Data> define common dist channel / Division </u>Note: in this you make common division and distribution channel for master data. And only then they will share the records in each other. Initial customer record should be maintained in the common division maintained and no need to extend it to others.

Hi!

The answer for SALES ORG,DCH,DIV has been given by our friends.

Suppose if u wan to share the master data for more than one distribution channel and division in such a case Common distribution channel and division is used.

Both are one and the same thing venkat...its just the change in terminology over a period of time. The concept remains the same.

One more example for this is: shipping unit which is now known as handling unit. If you read old SAP documentation it refers to shipping unit.

Thanks

hello Venkat,

<b>Sales Organisation</b> :Its is an organisation unit in logistics which is responsible for distribution of goods and services ,so it is liable for sold products and customer's rights.

it is the highest summation level.

it is basically for regional, national, international subdivistion for market account.

<b>Distribution Channel:</b>

its is the strategy, through which sales material reach the customer.for exaple :retail, wholesale, diesct for factory etc.

<b>division:</b>

It is a product line ,it represents a product group.(like motor cycle, car, etc.)

and common dist. channel is used when we have common master data. to avoid extra entries and database load .it is always good to use common distibution channel and division.

You thus minimize the effort of entering and managing master data.

you can extrapolate your own statistics per division without having to create master data in the different organizational subareas.

as ayub has explained eariler.

to add to his point

if there is material master as a master data then :

suppose if we have 2sales org(a,b) ,2distibution chl (c,d)

3 division (e,f,g)

then total records will be for this sales area will be

4only.. in case of material dicision does nt count.

but if there is customer naster then : records will be 12.

if clear please reward pts.

Nisha

Reference Sales organization, distribution channel and division are used as a means to assign/ restrict sales documents to different sales area.

Reference Sales organization, Distribution channel, Division T.Code: OVAZ

Suppose you have 2 sales organization (ABC, DEF), 2 DC's (D1, D2) and 3 Div (A1, A2,A3), there is a total of 12 sales area and suppose you have 8 sales documents to assigned to this sales area, basically if you don't have reference sales org., DC, and Div you will have a total of 96 entries. By using reference sales org, DC and Div we can have only 8 entries.
