Hi Purnendu,

the persistancy layer of PLM DMS is via Netweaver KPRO (http://service.sap.com/kpro). So files could be either saved directly inside the main DB (only fine when in dev or demo environment), or via an external Content Server, from SAP or from 3ed party software suppliers. SAP established an standardized interface, so that the 3ed parties can easily connect their file servers / storage systems. Also SAP offers the Content Server as an own HTTP File Server, free of charge. Inside this Content Server either a Database or a file system could take care of handling the files. (http://service.sap.com/contentserver -> Media Library -> Literature). You can get an overview on the 3ed parties, who offer this integration here (98 certified products). MS does not offer such an integration. It would also not make sense to use SharePoint, as here also users could access files. Only the SAP DMS should be able to manipulate the files in the storage repository.

Hi Martin,

I´m new on DMS, and I has been asked to prepare a list of the different types of storage original application files and the advantages and disadvantages of each one.

I know that the following storage types exists:

Storage controlled by DMS:

-SAP Database

-Vault

-Archive

Storage Systems by Kpro:

-HTTP Content Server

-SAP Database

But I don´t know which are the advantages and disadvantages of each type of storage and neither if are any other type of storage.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards, Marcelo.
