regading idoc triggering

why do we use idoc adapter in xi while triggering an idoc from sap/r3 to xi since xi has idoc meta data for idoc

Hi,

Functionality of IDOC adapter is to conver NATIVE IDOCS into IDOC XML.

Now Idoc as a sender we don't need to have adapter configuration.

Idoc as a receiver we need to identify the Target application so Adapter Configuration.

ur question isn't very clear.

We dont configure idoc sender in XI for sending the Idoc from R/3 to XI. Receiver Ido adapter is required.

And in general, any adapter is used for converting external data format into XI compatible data format.
