Hey,
An Identity Map keeps a record of all objects that have been read from the database in a single business transaction
If you are talking abt Enterprise Identity Mapping (EIM) thats are diff stroy together.

If you are talking about Identity Mapping in specific, as per my understand, it is used to measure the message size etc for the performace statistics. Also kind of admin activity..:
